What is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS)?

The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires all manufacturers to issue Safety Data Sheets (also known as SDS’s) with the first shipment of any hazardous chemical product. Hach Company issues SDS’s for all chemical shipments, from toxic mercuric acid to substances as benign as sodium chloride (salt).

The purpose of the SDS is to relay important information about the nature of the chemical — such as its flammability, toxicity, the need for protective equipment, and spill or clean-up requirements — to ensure the safety of any potential user of that chemical.
